Gary Neville in furious Twitter row with Accrington owner Andy Holt over shock Salford signing Adam Rooney

GARY NEVILLE has been embroiled in a heated row on Twitter with Accrington Stanley owner Andy Holt.

It comes after Salford City raised eyebrows by landing Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney on a £4,000-a-week deal – a move that saw the striker switch from the Scottish Premiership to the fifth-tier of English football.

Holt accused Neville, the co-owner of the National League side, of trying to “steal” a place in the Football League.

Replying to a comment suggesting Neville was a hypocrite for “waffling on about needing to protect grassroots one minute than buying a player that’ll be on 5k-a-week the next”, Holt launched an attack.

He replied: “Couldn’t agree more with the sentiments. Who’s place in the Football League is @GNev2 going to steal with this piss take.”

But the Manchester United legend fired back: “Steal! I hope it’s yours now! 5 ex players have matched all investment with our co-owner to build a stadium, build a successful team in a city we love and invest in football.

Steal! I hope it’s yours now!5 ex players have matched all investment with our co-owner to build a stadium , build a successful team in a city we love and invest in football. We’ve invested millions . You seem to want a franchise league where the established can’t be challenged!

We put a lot of money in and aren’t embarrassed about it but you think I’m going to disclose my wages on here ? He wants Franchise Football

So far our net wage bill for league 1 next season is £932,000. That’s out of a budget of £1.1m

“We’ve invested millions. You seem to want a franchise league where the established can’t be challenged.”

Neville then further sarcastically aimed a dig at Holt by saying: “We don’t run our club right! Only poor little Accrington do!!”

Accrington earned a surprise promotion to League One last season and the chairman admitted the club are operating on a budget of just £1.1million.

Holt said: “So far our net wage bill for League 1 next season is £932,000. That’s out of a budget of £1.1m.”
