Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives non-international players week off and takes staff on Tenerife holiday

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has treated his staff to a holiday during the international break – with left-over players handed a week off too, according to reports.

Premier League rivals like West Ham have gone away for warm-weather training in Miami.

And the the Liverpool Echo have revealed third-placed Liverpool have decided to focus on relaxation with a few days to switch-off.

Klopp has used the March international break in his last two seasons at Anfield to work with a depleted squad in the Canary Islands.

But he has decided to reward his free-flowing side with some time off to recuperate.

There are 16 senior first-team players away representing their countries and a selection of academy players have also been called up by various nations, making it tough to supplement the first-team squad.

Loris Karius, Danny Ward, Alberto Moreno, Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip, James Milner and Danny Ings are the only big-name players left behind this week.

Clyne and Ings have only just returned from serious long-term injuries while Milner retired from international football under Sam Allardyce’s brief tenure.

The first game back for Liverpool is the early kick-off on Saturday, March 31 against relegation battlers Crystal Palace.

And the former Dortmund boss expects a tough challenge after a week with his feet up and only 48 hours to prepare.

Klopp said: “We have to win football games and the next one especially will be very difficult.

“Crystal Palace, they won on Saturday and it’s after an international break, so we have to be ready in two days.

“We will be ready in two days. That’s a challenge, but first of all they [Liverpool’s players] need to come back healthy and I really hope for that.”
