Bayern Munich held talks with Man City but passed up opportunity to sign Jadon Sancho in 2017

BAYERN MUNICH had the chance to sign wonderkid Jadon Sancho last year but turned him down, according to reports.

The English winger is set for a bright future after forcing his way into the national side and continues to show remarkable progression for Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern chiefs extensively scouted the former Manchester City man and even made contact with boss Pep Guardiola over his availability.

The Spaniard gave his old club the green light to launch an offer but the Bundesliga champions opted to pursue other targets, according to BILD.

Sancho, 18, instead move to league rivals Borussia Dortmund for just £8million in the summer of 2017.

And it has proved to be a bargain fee with Sancho providing an assist every 35 minutes in the Bundesliga this season.

He penned a new deal at Dortmund earlier this month, signing a new contract extension until 2022.

After agreeing an extended deal, the club described him as “one of the most exciting players in Europe.”

Sancho added: “I’m so happy that I chose to come to Dortmund a year ago,

“Everything I was hoping for has come true: this city loves football like no other, and at BVB young players get regular playing time. I can really make outstanding progress here.

“I’m happy, delighted and proud to be part of this team. We’re building something amazing.”

Sancho became the first post-millennium Three Lions player to make his England debut when he came on against Croatia last week.

He is the 10th-youngest international and not since Duncan Edwards made his first appearance in white has a player so young played for the first time in a competitive game.
