Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos disagrees with ‘opportunist’ Cristiano Ronaldo over claims European champs are struggling because of player sales

SERGIO RAMOS believes Cristiano Ronaldo is WRONG to blame Real Madrid’s struggles on their summer sales.

Ronaldo reckons the departures of the likes of Alvaro Morata, James Rodriguez and Pepe have cost the European champions this season.

Real are eight points behind leaders Barcelona in third and trail Tottenham in Group H of the Champions League.

But Los Blancos captain Ramos, 31, told Cadena SER: “I do not agree with Cristiano. I think it’s an opportunist opinion.

“When we won two Super Cups [Uefa Super Cup and Supercopa de Espana], nobody missed anyone.

“I would place more of the emphasis on injuries. The team is stronger when we’re all together.”

Last term, Morata pitched in with 12 goals and offered Zinedine Zidane another option from the bench.

Real have lost that Plan B since the Spaniard’s £65million summer move to Chelsea.

He said: “I don’t miss anyone. No one.

“The squad has changed, of course, but some contribute some things and others have another role.”

Morata, 25, insisted he would return to the Bernabeu – but that the situation is “complicated”.
